Workshop Title: Bringing Boyers to Your Institution

Center for Learning Excellence held a Focus Group Discussion regarding Boyers Model. Faculty teaching at Ph.D. or MPhil level participated from each of the departments. The objective of this discussion is to analyze teaching difficulties faced by faculty teaching at MPhil and Ph.D. levels. Boyer’s model focused on four aspects specifically on teaching, discovery, integration, and application.

Scholarship of Teaching: FGD regarding scholarship of teaching emphasized the difficulties and suggestions in teaching provided by the participants regarding course development, teaching-focused, innovative teaching strategies, production of teaching material, and classroom action research.

Scholarship of Discovery: FGD regarding scholarship of discovery focused on knowledge building, research, learning perspective, and learning outcomes.

Scholarship of Integration: FGD regarding scholarship of integration focused on cross-discipline focus, literature review, meta-analysis, and social paradigm.

Scholarship of Application: FGD regarding scholarship of application focused on collaboration, curriculum, leadership, and knowledge.

Results of Focus Group Discussion showed skill gaps that each faculty facing while teaching at MPhil and Ph.D. levels.  Thematic analysis was done based on the focus group discussion and a series of workshops were organized under the title ‘Bringing Boyers to Your Institution’. In which many national and international guest speakers enlightened us from their perspective regarding Boyers Model.

  • The first session was held online on 28th October 2021 by Prof. Dr. Alan Davis titled ‘A view from the top’ in which he focused on the Scholarship of discovery, integration, application, teaching, and creation.
  • The second session was held online by Dr. Cheikh Ould Moulaye from the University of Manitoba on ‘Blended Learning at FJWU’.
  • The third on-campus session was held at FJWU in which the speaker Dr. Pille Pruulmann-Vengerfeldt from the University of Malmo Sweden talked about ‘Faculty training for publication in international journals’ on 27th November 2021.
  • In the fourth session, Prof. Dr. Imran Hameed joined us from the Lahore School of Economics shared his implicit knowledge on ‘Academic Publishing’ on 04th December 2021.
  • In the fifth session, Dr. Rabia Akhtar from the University of Lahore shared her implicit experience to promote cross-disciplinary integration on 10th December 2021 titled ‘‘Research in Social Sciences’’.
  • The last session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Azra Yasmin on ‘Special Focus on Integration’ on 07th January 2021.
